Spring clean

In anticipation of the dream job I will be offered I have started in on some of the house stuff I will be glad to have done when whirling around being all editor-y.  Today I tackled bedroom: my half.

And I jettisoned a lot of my/our wardrobe.  Normally this takes weeks of negotiation with people in the system, but this time it was pretty easy because I got rid of:

  • anything too big (maternity clothes are already stowed away ’cause those are frigging expensive)
  • anything that might bare a small amount of tummy.  Funny how after Emily’s pregnancy that didn’t really bother me but now there is no way I am baring my stomach again.
  • anything small unless it was merely the chest area
  • anything really dated like my mid-thigh red & black blazer that screams… something from another decade.
  • most things my mother has gotten me, although I may pull the Cinderella (yes… official Disney Cinderella print) shirt out to keep just because I must have proof.

I kept all of Lyr’s flowy dresses because it’s mostly chest area that doesn’t fit and that should change post-breastfeeding, right?

Some thoughts on my wardrobe:

  • What do you do with the outfit you wore to your daughter’s funeral? (rhetorical question) I can’t see wearing it anywhere else; certainly not out. Maybe to another funeral, although it’s probably a bit big. Can’t see throwing it out though, either.
  • I kept the skort. Tough shit. I think I like it regardless. Mostly because of the whole sandbox thing this year.
  • My red leather jacket is a bit big and I do not care.
  • I definitely have to go get a suit for the interview I will be having, because I really no longer have anything resembling a professional wardrobe anywhere near my current size or indeed, any other size. Maybe I will take Noah downtown and hang outside the building I will be working in to see what people going in there are wearing. Although I would still have to dress suit-y for an interview, but you know, funky cool suit.
  • My budget is going to be challenged to get the suit.

Noah had a blast helping, and we danced to Aimee Mann and just generally had a good time at home.  I got a bit more gardening done too: half the lily of the valley dug up. Noah’s new playhouse is going to come in handy for doing a half hour of work here and there out back which is cool.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with the retaining “wall” – all brick and no mortar. WHO lays a brick wall without sticking the bricks together? And we are talking basic basic bricks, not stuff designed for it. Noah’s already discovered he can take bricks down. But our budget is totally blown (not just due to suit!) as we’re going out west this summer, plus putting benches (the kind that double as rails) on the deck and a few other things.  Big landscaping is not on the horizon this year.

And I worked this morning. Ha it was a busy day. :)
