Also, how do non-co-sleeping parents handle it if their tiny vulnerable preschooler has the stomach flu and sleeps in his/her own bed?
I need to know, because Noah chooses his own bed most of the time now, and tonight, despite the vomiting and so forth, he chose his own bed.
So like, am I supposed to go to sleep with the baby monitor pressed to my ear and assume he will SURVIVE if he wakes up sick and vomiting and it takes me a few minutes to wake up and get 12 steps down the hall? Or do I sleep on his floor?
!

I have definitely slept on the floor (albeit back when Wilder was getting more respiratory illnesses than he lately, may the trend continue). If you have an air mattress, so much the better….
If this isn’t too late…
I sleep in my own bed, but we haven’t coslept since the tot was an infant so me camping out in her room would mess up her going to sleep.
I would spread towels or blankets all around the bed and tell him that if he needs to vomit, he should aim for the blankets on his bed. It’s much easier to wash the bed linens than scrub the carpet/rug.
Be sure to put him in jammies that open down the front for easy removal, and have a spare set of bed linens ready to go on the bed.
Gosh, I hope you’re all healthy today. Best of luck.
Know this is late but…
We have the barf bucket. And like amy said, easy to remove jammies. also handy is suggesting sleeping in a “nest” in your room if he doesn’t want to be in your bed. lots of (washable) pillows and blankies scattered about.
